Voor haar nieuwe album ‘Windy City’ maakte de gevierde bluegrass en country-zangeres een persoonlijke selectie van klassiekers binnen het genre waaronder werk van Brenda Lee, Willie Nelson, Bill Monroe en The Osborne Brothers.

Alison Krauss werkte op ‘Windy City’ samen met Buddy Cannon. De legendarische producer uit Nashville die hits schreef voor onder andere Vern Gosdin, Mel Tillis, George Strait, Glen Campbell, George Jones en Don Williams. Ook produceerde hij albums voor Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn en Kenny Chesney. Samen met Cannon maakte Krauss de selectie van de klassiekers voor ‘Windy City’ die toevalligerwijs het samenhangende thema van liefdesverdriet belichten. Van Glen Campbell’s bekende nummer ‘Gentle On My Mind, Willie Nelson’s ‘I Never Cared For You’ tot ‘You Don’t Know Me’ dat een hit werd voor zowel Eddy Arnold als Ray Charles.

Alison Krauss vertelt hierover: “It’s almost like you don’t know it was sad. Because I doesn’t sound weak. It doesn’t have a pitiful part to it, where so many sad songs do. But these don’t. And I love that about it. I love that there’s strength underneath there. That whatever those stories are, they didn’t destroy. That that person made it right through it. I love that.”
